For starters, I chose photography because I feel that it is a way to freeze moments in time. Photographs enable us to look back and reflect on different times in our lives. Sometimes we have vivid memories of past times and other times, photographs trigger those memories. Photographs also have the ability to tell stories that we may not be able to tell ourselves. For these reasons, I choose to focus on child and family photography. I love to capture the innocence in a child’s youth. I appreciate that my mom took countless photos of me growing up. While I may not remember some of those times per say, I can at least look at the photos and imagine the fun that my siblings and I were having or just reflect on how much I’ve grown over the years. I don’t think a day goes by without me taking a photo of my daughter. I not only want her look back and see herself as a baby one day, but above all, I also want her to know that she was loved.
My desire to specialize in child and family photography is fueled by the feedback that I receive from my clients as well as how I feel behind the lens. I have a passion for photography. It’s not something that I do for the fame or fortune. While I do shoo landscape and nature photos from time to time, I like the different emotions that I get from child and family portraits. Some portraits feature smiles while other only feature a mere smirk. Some highlight a sense of peace and others, happiness. So, this is why I have chosen the field of child and family photography. To capture moments in time and give my clients the ability to tell their stories for generations to come. This is also why I chose the name "Caption This." In addition to the photo itself telling a story, it allows my audience to use their imagination and invent their own story or tag line for the photo as well.
The day that I lose my passion for photography is the day that I stop doing what I do. Until then, my goal is to continue making my clients happy, one frozen frame after another.
